The Dinerstein Cos., a local developer, built its first market-rate high-rise in Houston with Aspire Post Oak, a 40-story, 383-unit, skyline-altering tower with 49,700 square feet of amenities in the Uptown-Galleria area.
Why it matters: The Gensler-designed skyscraper at 1616 Post Oak Blvd. has changed the skyline on Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe Street, where it sits at a highly trafficked intersection near Whole Foods, Total Wine & More and popular restaurants like the Original Ninfa’s Uptown.
Extras: The upscale skyscraper is designed with amenities including a glass-edge pool and spa, automated parcel and refrigerated storage for deliveries, valet parking, concierge service and a 1,540-square-foot sky lounge on the 40th floor.
The backstory: The Dinerstein Cos. specialized in mid-rise multifamily developments and student housing before building its first high-rise: an Aspire student housing development in College Station, Texas. More high-rise projects could be in store.
Aiming higher: Aspire Post Oak is the tallest project The Dinerstein Cos. has ever built and one of the tallest residential towers in Houston, according to the developer.
Location, location, location: The project is within a mile of multiple retail amenities near the Galleria mall, close to several prominent office complexes and has relatively easy access to Interstate 610.
Project history: The developer acquired the 1.5-acre site from AmREIT in 2015. The project was stalled for a bit while dealing with litigation from a nearby condo tower over the size and scale of the development but eventually broke ground in 2019. It opened in December 2021.
