Newmark Expands Capital Markets Team in San Diego

Newmark, the brokerage that recently expanded its Southern California multifamily investment sales team in Los Angeles, has added another broker in the region. The brokerage said it hired Erik Anderson, who spent the past four years at Northmarq, as a senior managing director in San Diego. In his new role at Newmark, Anderson will focus on multifamily investment sales for large private clients and middle-market investors throughout Southern California, the brokerage said. Anderson, who has nearly 10 years of experience in the industry, also has worked at CBRE. During his career, he has completed transactions valued at more than $500 million. Newmark's hiring of Anderson follows the addition of multifamily investment sales broker Dean Zander, who spent the past seven years at CBRE as a vice chairman in its Century Center office in west Los Angeles.

Cushman & Wakefield Adds to Florida Multifamily Group

Cushman & Wakefield has hired Joey Blakley as a senior director in the brokerage's Orlando office as it works to grow its multifamily practice in Central and Northern Florida. Blakley will join Cushman & Wakefield's existing Florida multifamily group that is led by Vice Chairs Mike Donaldson and Nick Meoli and collectively represents institutional and private capital investors and developers across the Sunshine State. “We continue to invest for the long-term in various markets and sectors throughout the state, including our multifamily practice in the Central and Northern Florida markets," said Wanda Riley, Cushman & Wakefield’s managing principal in Florida, said in a statement. Blakley, who has two decades of experience in commercial real estate, previously worked at Foundry Commercial's Mission Property Group, where he oversaw its brokerage business across Florida and Ohio. “While we have transacted on over 24,000 units throughout Florida within the last three years, we anticipate a significant uptick in sales velocity in the near term as a result of improved market conditions," Meoli said in a statement.

JLL Names Tennessee Project and Development Services Lead

JLL has promoted David Cripe to be leader of its project and development services, PDS, division for the brokerage's Tennessee region. In this role, Cripe will apply his 25-plus years of industry experience to promote and expand JLL's PDS business, particularly in Nashville, where he is based, and Memphis, the firm said. He also will continue to lead JLL’s Southeast healthcare practice, where he is focused on expanding the PDS team’s portfolio and capabilities across the Southeast, JLL said. Cripe joined JLL in 2022 as a senior vice president to lead the Southeast healthcare practice. During his 25-year career, Cripe has overseen more than $2 billion in capital projects. Alex Demestihas, JLL’s managing director of PDS for the Southeast, said in a statement that the firm is confident Cripe "will play an impactful role in driving growth across the state."

AvalonBay Creates New Portfolio and Asset Management Position

Multifamily real estate investment trust Avalon Bay Communities has created a new position to oversee its asset management group and hired industry veteran Pamela Thomas to fill it. In her new role as executive vice president of portfolio and asset management, Thomas will determine and create alignment on key priorities for boosting the performance of AvalonBay's apartment portfolio and set capital plans to achieve performance objectives, the REIT said. She is based at AvalonBay's headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. “As we continue to optimize our portfolio to deliver superior growth, this is the right time to expand our executive team to provide focused leadership on portfolio and asset management and an additional voice on strategic planning,” CEO Benjamin Schall said in a statement. Most recently, Thomas worked at CPP Investments, or CPP, as head of U.S. real estate investment, a managing director and member of the global leadership team. CPP is the investment arm of the Canada Pension Plan. Before she worked at CPP, Thomas served as an executive director at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, where she oversaw the firm’s New York and Northern New Jersey multifamily portfolio. She also worked at RREEF-Deutsche Bank. At AvalonBay, Thomas will report to Schall.

Patterson Expands With Two New Hires

Chance Gordon (Patterson)

Patterson Real Estate Advisory Group, the capital placement and real estate finance firm founded by Lance Patterson, has expanded its Atlanta headquarters operation with the hiring of Erin Green and Chance Gordon. Green joined Patterson as a senior operations analyst. In her new role, she will oversee a wide range of operational functions related to marketing, social media, information technology, financial performance reporting and human resources. Green previously served as operations and production manager at Alluvial Apparel Co. Gordon joined Patterson as an analyst. In his new role, he will help teams working on deals with the underwriting of investments and production of investment offerings. He previously was an intern at Landmark Properties, one of the country's largest developers of student housing. The addition of Green and Gordon will help Patterson as it continues its expansion across the Southeast, Chief Operating Officer Suzanne Holman said.
