Public and corporate leaders across California are urging Gov. Gavin Newsom to suspend a law limiting the state’s power to control apartment rents because millions of residents are at risk of eviction or homelessness during the coronavirus pandemic. In exchange, the group trying to repeal the law on the November ballot promised to drop the effort.
