A new live-work-play neighborhood called the Post District has emerged on the western edge of downtown Salt Lake City, highlighted by the opening last year of a 580-unit multifamily complex.
Post District Residences provides a broad range of housing options with rents from $1,200 to $4,000 a month while allowing residents access to amenities including a 7,000-square-foot fitness center, rooftop decks, a resort-style swimming pool, golf simulator and creative space for artists and content creators.
The project has been selected by a panel of local industry professionals as the winner of the 2024 CoStar Impact Award for multifamily redevelopment of the year for Salt Lake City.
To create the Post District, partners Lowe Property Group, BCG Holdings and Bridge Investment Group repurposed existing industrial buildings for retail and office uses to preserve the city’s character. Post District Residences includes four midrise buildings: The Register, 801 Flats, Post House North and Post House South.
Post District food and beverage options include the acclaimed restaurant Urban Hill, Level Crossing Brewing Company, and Urban Sailor Coffee. Pellet grill company Traeger is a major office tenant.
Altogether, the Post District makes up a full city block and serves as a gateway to Utah’s capital. It stands among the largest mixed-use projects during a recent period of record-setting construction downtown. The name refers to the site’s former use as a Salt Lake Tribune newspaper distribution facility.
About the Project: The Post District is located in a federally designated opportunity zone, which provides tax benefits to investors in economically distressed areas. The program was created under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and is designed to spur development and job creation.
What the Judges Said: Bridge Investment Group “did a fantastic job with this project with not just the multifamily but the mixed-use as well. They were strategic in keeping the character of the city with also adding the newness of a beautiful residential area that people will be drawn to,” Jordan Johnson, senior commercial leasing manager, City Creek Reserve.
The Post District “brings much-needed housing to downtown Salt Lake City (ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments), revitalizes the surrounding area, and utilizes re-purposed existing industrial buildings for retail and office spaces. The development’s unique design has already created a distinct and recognizable place,” Ajla Aksamija, architecture professor, University of Utah.
