Amanda James, the chief financial officer of high-street fashion stalwart Next, has been named as a non-executive director on the board of British Land.
James has been with Next's finance team for 28 years, and has an "extensive background in finance". She was appointed CFO and joined the retailer's board in 2015.
James will join the audit committee of British Land when she begins her non-executive director role on 1 July this year. She will step down from the Next board from 26 July and retire from the business at the end of September.
Tim Score, chair of British Land, said in a statement: "Amanda brings not only deep expertise in finance, but also strong consumer, retail and multi-channel experience. Her depth of retail expertise will provide valuable insight into the needs of our customers as we continue to execute our value add strategy."
As well as picking up a role at the leading UK real estate investment trust, James will also become a non-executive director of car exchange group Auto Trader from the beginning of July. She will join its audit, remuneration, corporate responsibility and nomination committees.
Earlier this month British Land appointed William Rucker as chair designate, succeeding incumbent Tim Score. He was most recently chair of Lazard in the UK, an investment bank focused on asset management and financial advisory businesses.
