Possibly the most famous hotel attraction in Berlin, the AquaDom Berlin in the city’s 427-room Radisson Collection Hotel Berlin burst early Friday morning, emptying more than 1,500 fish and 260,000 gallons of water that blew out the front doors.

A statement Radisson Hotel Group sent to Hotel News Now said “this morning at approximately 6.30 a.m. Central European Time, the aquarium of the Aquadom Berlin, located in the Radisson Collection Hotel, Berlin, collapsed."

“As far as we know to date, no guests were injured, and together with the authorities we are looking into the cause of the incident. We have immediately closed the hotel until further notice and are relocating guests,” the statement said.

There was no indication of the number of guests staying at the hotel, but Radisson did say all had been relocated to other hotels. German news source Deutsche Welle reported more than 100 firefighters responded to the scene.

The cylindrical aquarium, thought to be the world’s tallest free-standing example of its kind, dominated the entire height of the lobby of the hotel, formerly the Radisson Blu Berlin.

The hotel reopened in early 2022 after a major renovation.
