Office visits have shown signs of leveling off at 60% of pre-pandemic frequency nationally since the beginning of the year, according to traffic analytics firm Placer.ai.
The data analyzed foot traffic around 800 commercial office buildings in the United States, excluding mixed-use buildings that are both residential and commercial.
For many, Tuesdays have become the new Mondays, or the day they typically start their week in the office. The smallest gaps in office visits during May, compared to May 2019, occurred on Tuesdays (-37.4%), followed by Wednesdays (-38.7%) and Thursdays (-40.2%).
Notably, certain cities are experiencing a higher rate of office comeback, particularly Washington, D.C., where office foot traffic in May was only 29.6% below pre-pandemic levels. In contrast, San Francisco still lags behind with a 58% decrease.
