The National Apartment Association has recognized Phyllis Garcia, who has more than three decades of experience in the rental housing industry, with its 2023 Malcolm N. Bennett Advocate of the Year award.
Garcia, who works at Ovation Property Management in the Las Vegas area and is a member of the Nevada State Apartment Association, is an active advocate for the apartment industry. Garcia also serves as an ambassador of the NAA Political Action Committee and, at Ovation, she is director of its low-income housing tax credit compliance division.
“In a year where advocacy has been more important for our industry than ever before, Phyllis’ steadfast dedication has truly made a difference,” NAA President and CEO Bob Pinnegar said in a statement. “Her industry peers made clear that Phyllis is a leader in advocacy, always the first to answer the call to advocate and always encouraging others to help make a difference for rental housing."
Each year, NAA recognizes who it considers to be the U.S. rental housing industry’s top grassroots advocate. The award is named after former recipient and industry advocate Malcolm N. Bennett. The apartment association honored Garcia at its annual Assembly of Delegates meeting held recently in San Diego.
