Newmark expands Los Angeles finance team

Newmark has hired Robert Younkin and Garrett Meyers as vice chairmen in its Los Angeles office. They will focus on conventional multifamily and manufactured housing debt origination, the brokerage said. The duo, who bring a combined 35 years of industry experience, both worked most recently at PGIM Real Estate and earlier at PNC Real Estate.

Prior to joining Newmark, Younkin and Meyers originated more than $12 billion combined in finance transactions, having led high-volume agency origination and helping PGIM increase its presence in manufactured housing. Newmark said it is looking to grow its multifamily debt business and expand its reach in workforce and manufactured housing to meet rising demand. 

JLL taps new risk advisory executives

JLL appointed Jon Sestak as an executive director. He will oversee its national services geared to the affordable housing industry, Chicago-based JLL said. The firm also appointed Jim O’Leary as executive managing director to lead its national industrial team, and Inna Babakulieva as executive director to focus on multifamily services in its Southeast region.

The three executives work on value and risk advisory services, led by CEO Mike Ellis. O’Leary previously led JLL’s Midwest industrial valuation team after earlier work with CBRE. JLL’s value and risk advisory practice has more than 2,500 experts advising clients in over 35 countries in multiple property categories, the brokerage said. 

Ryan Cos. bolsters management

Domingos Garcia (Ryan Cos.)

Commercial developer Ryan Cos. appointed Elizabeth Holmes as vice president of capital markets in charge of private capital partnerships, based in its Minneapolis, Minnesota, headquarters. The firm said it also hired Domingos Garcia as regional director of architecture for its Southeast region, overseeing projects at the company’s offices in Atlanta and Tampa, Florida.

Holmes has 15 years of experience in capital raising, helping to secure more than $1.1 billion in investments for small and large companies. Domingos has more than two decades of experience in categories such as retail, hospitality, office, manufacturing and residential. He worked most recently on international projects at the design firm Foster + Partners.

Madison Realty Capital hires property executive

Madison Realty Capital hired Brad Cohen as managing director and head of asset and portfolio management. Cohen is a 40-year commercial real estate industry veteran, serving most recently in roles that included senior managing director and chief credit officer at Affinius Capital, formerly known as Square Mile Capital.

Cohen now oversees portfolio monitoring, risk assessment and related asset management strategies at Madison, the New York-based private equity firm said. His career includes prior stints at UBS and KPMG.

Lion Real Estate grows California services

Hunter Heatly (Lion Real Estate Group)

Hunter Heatly joined Lion Real Estate Group as a senior vice president, the Dallas-based real estate investment and management firm said. Heatly, most recently vice president of asset management at Sares Regis Group, is now based in Lion’s Los Angeles office.

The company said Heatly will oversee portfolio performance and investment strategies for Lion, which is focused primarily on acquiring value-add multifamily properties and holds a nationwide portfolio of more than 6,800 apartments. Heatly’s 15-year career also includes a stint with Irvine Company, serving as an acquisitions manager in the firm’s Southern California apartment development group.
