There are lot of reasons hoteliers are feeling a bit restless heading into 2024, with softening leisure demand and lingering worries about a potential recession.

But the hotel industry at large has much more to be thankful for after yet another strong year.

Emmy Hise, CoStar's senior director of hospitality analytics, joined the Hotel News Now podcast to talk about the things hoteliers should be most thankful for.

Chief on that list? The people who continue to make the industry thrive.

"What I'm thankful for in this industry, it's always the people. Always, always, always the people," she said.

Another thing hoteliers should appreciate about 2023 is the strong concert calendar, headlined by Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. But Hise said it wasn't just a Taylor Swift phenomenon this year.

"It was a good concert series this year, not only Taylor Swift, but Beyoncé," she said. "I don't know if anyone did data on Ed Sheeran, but a lot of big people came and toured. Coldplay did, too, right? There's a lot of big ones."
