Amount of empty office space exceeds national rate for first time since 2006

In the first quarter of 2025, Boston’s office market reached a 25-year high vacancy rate of 14%. Boston had previously outperformed the national average, with local office vacancy rates holding below 10% for the 10 years between 2013 and 2022. However, the amount of vacant office space in the region has rapidly escalated in recent years.
