HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The 6th annual Hotel Data Conference, hosted by STR and Hotel News Now and presented by Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, announces Arthur Laffer as this year’s keynote speaker.
Laffer is most known for his experience in politics, where he served as the youngest chief economist ever at the Office of Management and Budget and earned fame as the “Father of Supply-Side Economics” for his explanation of the Laffer Curve. The Laffer Curve shows the relationship between tax rates and tax revenue collected by governments. He is known for his work with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and President Ronald Reagan during the supply-side revolution.
“I have admired and respected Art Laffer since the early ‘80s,” said Randy Smith, co-founder and chairman of STR. “When he introduced the Laffer Curve it swept the world of economics and had a huge impact on U.S. tax policy. I am thrilled and honored to have him as the keynote speaker at the Hotel Data Conference. I believe our attendees will find his remarks both timely and insightful.”
During his 30-minute speech and follow up Q&A session, Laffer will focus on how overall economics affect the hotel industry.
The conference also announced the topics for general sessions on this year’s agenda:
- The state of the industry: High-flying performance;
- Are we there yet? When the U.S. hotel industry will reach its peak; and
- Information, insight and innovation: Other industries’ effects on hotels.
