Bed Bath & Beyond Closings Offer Insight Into Future Retail Pullbacks

Few retailers better illustrate the vulnerability of traditional department stores than Bed Bath & Beyond. The home furnishings brand announced the closure of 150 locations across the U.S. in August. Of that total, the company has shared 56 specific locations that will be shuttered over the next several months. The struggling retailer, which saw a 28% decline in net sales during the second quarter, described the closing stores as “underperformers.”
