CoStar News reporter Lou Hirsh was recognized in a San Diego Press Club competition honoring the region's best real estate news stories.

He received a second place award in the category for online and newspaper publications for a story published last year on how Los Angeles hopes to avoid making costly real estate mistakes when it hosts the 2028 Olympic Games.

In “Los Angeles Aims for No Build 2028 Olympics,” Hirsh analyzed how real estate development increasingly lies at the heart of both the selection of host cities — and the costs many are left with when the crowds go home. As a result, LA is pledging to build no new permanent sport facilities this time around. The story also received a second place award earlier this year from the Los Angeles Press Club.

Hirsh, based in San Diego, writes about commercial real estate for CoStar News, a news organization that specializes in the coverage of commercial real estate in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. CoStar News is published by CoStar Group, the largest provider of commercial real estate information.
