Michael Horne, the Beacon Management Services engineering director who nearly died when shot at work last summer, joined his colleagues for their annual Thanksgiving workplace meal.

Horne was shot in the chest in August at the 1280 West Condominiums in midtown Atlanta when a woman opened fire and killed property manager Michael Shinners. Beacon is the property management company at the residential high-rise. The suspected shooter also has been charged with killing a man at the 1100 Peachtree office tower the same day.

"He's a miracle," Beacon Management President Lisa Simmons said of Horne via Facebook Messenger. "The doctor said he could have gone either way when they brought him in." Horn endured a series of surgeries after the shooting.

Beacon Management hosted the Thanksgiving luncheon, where Horn talked about his experience, on Thursday. Mike is "no longer a victim, but a victor over the 1280 West shooting," Simmons said in a Facebook post. "A victor over multiple surgeries during his 67 days in the hospital!"

Atlanta police said the woman charged with murder may have targeted her victims, while Beacon Management described her as a disgruntled resident of 1280 West, a 40-story tower at 1280 W. Peachtree St.
