Population growth in Milwaukee hit 15-year high in 2024; still trails national average

Robust international migration drives surge

The Milwaukee-Waukesha metropolitan area saw its strongest population growth since 2009 last year, adding 6,563 people, according to the most recent population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. While this far exceeds the average annual growth of roughly 2,150 residents in the 2010s, the region's total population remains nearly 300 people below where it was entering the pandemic thanks to outflows of almost 11,000 residents in 2021 alone.
