Australia-based Baillie Lodges has acquired a majority share of Chile’s Tierra Hotels and its collection of three experiential luxury lodges in South America.
The deal adds to Baillie Lodges’ portfolio of ultra-luxury hotels in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, according to a news release. An affiliate of KSL Capital Partners, the company will add the Tierra Patagonia in Torres del Paine National Park, Tierra Atacama in the northern desert of Chile and Tierra Chiloé on Chiloé Island to its portfolio for a total of 10 properties in its collection.
Baillie Lodges’ plan is to invest in the three Tierra hotels to maintain their unique market positions. It also intends to expand the Tierra hotel platform in the future through acquisitions and new greenfield developments.
"This partnership is a natural fit for our companies and teams, and we look forward to sharing these wonderful new properties and experiences with our guests," Baillie Lodges Executive Chairman Michael Moret-Lalli said in the release. "Both brands share a vision for delivering exceptional, immersive experiences, and I am thrilled for our teams to join forces and continue exploring new frontiers in hospitality and leisure as the world gets back to traveling."
The deal follows a long history of collaboration between the Baillie Lodges team and Tierra Hotels founder Miguel Purcell, whose family has developed and operated Tierra Hotels since 2008. The Purcell family will retain an ownership stake in the portfolio, and its three hotels will still carry the Tierra Hotels branding.
"We are delighted to work with the Baillie Lodges team," Purcell said in the release. "We both take a personal approach to hospitality, customizing unique and enriching experiences for guests who are looking to explore the world in a meaningful, sustainable way."
