Kimpton Debuts in Lisbon

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the first hotel in Lisbon for its Kimpton Hotels & Restaurant brand, with the 141-room Kimpton Lisbon due to open in early 2025. The owner is Real Hotel Group. IHG announced a debut Kimpton in Portugal with the late 2023 opening of the Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántico.

AndBeyond Suyian Lodge To Open in Kenya

The AndBeyond Suyian Lodge is slated to open July 1, 2025. The resort will have a luxury lodge and luxury tents, the exclusive accommodations option in the 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy in the Laikipia region of Kenya. Nonprofit conservation group Space for Giants administers the vast area where it is claimed exists the greatest population of wildlife anywhere in Kenya outside of the Masai Mara Nature Reserve.

SO/ Moves into Budapest

Accor brand SO/ Hotels has signed a deal to convert the existing Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel. The hotel will become the SO/ Budapest, which will open in 2026 with 350 rooms. The hotel is in Accor’s Ennismore division, while the Sofitel brand is part of the French firm’s premium, midscale and economy division.

Generator Uses Schroders Cash to Renovate Berlin Hotel

Generator has announced the first renovations deal since it announced its white-label management deal in Europe. Schroders Capital and the hybrid-hostel firm will fully renovate the Generator Berlin Alexanderplatz, which once completed will have 695 beds in 132 guestrooms.

Sofitel Welcomes Guests to Ras al Khaimah

Sofitel opened in mid-May the 292-room Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort with owner Al Hamra Real Estate Development LLC.

Mandarin Oriental Announces Fifth Italian Hotel

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and owner Merope Asset Management will open the Mandarin Oriental, Rome, in a series of 10 19th-century villas collectively known as the Villini Sallustiani. Merope bought the properties for a €100 million in September 2021 and said at the time it would invest a further €80 million in their restoration.

Baheej and Kerten Partner on Saudi Hotel

Owner Baheej Tourism Development Company, a joint venture between Saudi owners ASFAR — itself owned by the country’s sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Forum — and Tamimi-AWN Alliance, have partnered with Dublin-based Kerten Hospitality to open the Cloud 7 Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, approximately 200 miles north of Jeddah. The hotel, one of Kerten’s in-house brands, does not as yet have a room count.

Wyndham To Open Wroclaw’s Largest Hotel

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ flag will continue to fly over what will soon be Wroclaw, Poland’s largest hotel, with the 152-room Wyndham Wroclaw Old Town adding an additional 205 rooms. The property will continue to be managed by Latvian operator Mogotel Hotel Group.

Primestar Opens Second June Six Hotel

Berlin-based Primestar Hospitality GmbH has opened the second hotel in its June Six brand with the 115-room June Six Hotel Hannover City. The parent firm now has 19 hotels, mostly in Germany but also in Austria and Italy.

Radisson Takes Over Cape Town Park Inn

Radisson Hotel Group has assumed management of the former Park Inn Cape Town Foreshore in Cape Town. The hotel, now known as the Radisson Hotel Cape Town Foreshore, has undergone a renovation and upped its room count to 120. It is the hotel group's third hotel in the South African city.

Anandes Hotel to Augment Mykonos’ Boutique Scene

The 42-room Anandes Hotels will open later this month in the Chora, or Old Town, district of Mykonos Town on the Greek island of Mykonos. The boutique hotel has a spa, and many of its rooms have private pools.

IHG Debuts Vignette in Kuwait

In May, IHG debuted its soft brand Vignette Collection in Kuwait with the 195-room Arabella Beach Hotel Kuwait, Vignette Collection, in collaboration with owner Aqarat and management company United Hospitality Management.

KOP Opens Ellen in London

The Ellen Kensington opens early this summer in London. Its Singapore-based owner KOP, which also owns the Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, has elected its in-house operator Montigo Resorts to run the 105-room hotel, which is named in honor of Victorian actor Ellen Terry.

Starboard Renovates Gatwick Ibis

Beaconsfield-based owner Starboard Hotels Group has renovated and reopened the 182-room Ibis Styles Gatwick for £14 million. Ibis Styles is an Accor brand.

La Quinta Comes to Abu Dhabi

Wyndham brand La Quinta by Wyndham opened its first hotel in Abu Dhabi at the end of May in collaboration with owner Gromaxx Hotel Management. The 107-room La Quinta by Wyndham Abu Dhabi Al Wahda is the hotel firm’s sixth hotel in the United Arab Emirates.

Minor To Open Sharjah Resort

Also in the UAE, Minor Hotels will open the 110-room Anantara Sharjah Resort on the emirate’s Al Heerah Beach. Part of the hotel’s building will be a collection of branded residences. The first guests are expected in late 2027.

The Store Is Open in Oxford

Boutique hotel The Store opened last month in Oxford, one of England’s principal university cities. The 101-room hotel occupies the site of former department stores, Boswells, hence its adopted name. That store dates to 1738, originally selling luggage, which it is believed was taken aboard a ship captained by famed mariner James Cook, thought to be the first European to step on Australian soil. The hotel's owner is the Reef Group.
