Las Vegas will soon open the doors to a 67-story Fontainebleau, which marks the first western expansion for the iconic brand.
The resort, which is scheduled to open Dec. 13, has been in the works for 18 years. Fontainebleau Development chairman and CEO Jeffrey Soffer first pitched the idea of it in 2005 and broke ground in 2007.
In 2009, the project was abandoned due to effects of the Great Recession.
Through the years, the resort has changed owners but eventually landed back in the hands of Soffer and his partners at multinational conglomerate corporation Koch Industries in 2021, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
According to CoStar data, the resort was purchased as part of a two-property portfolio for $350 million.
In late 2022, the developers secured a $2.2 billion construction loan. According to Bloomberg, the total project cost is $3.7 billion.
The Fontainebleau Las Vegas is among various projects under construction as the city transforms itself to host the upcoming Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix race in November.
In total, Las Vegas this year will add roughly 4,700 hotel rooms and 572,000 square feet of convention space across the Strip and downtown, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's construction bulletin.
Fontainebleau Development has completed $27 billion in total transaction value, $10 billion in total development value and more than 100 real estate projects and investments, according to its website.
