First-quarter hotel room openings increase by 3,000 rooms from last year

Hotel rooms in construction now 69,000 rooms below 2019

The room count of U.S. hotels in construction in the first quarter continued to slow, down to just under 145,000 rooms from the prior high of around 214,000 rooms in 2020. The number of hotel rooms opening in the first quarter bottomed out in 2023; this year, it grew by around 3,000 rooms, or 17%, from the first quarter of 2024.
