Perched atop a hill in the heart of Los Angeles sits a house being called a midcentury “showpiece” with sweeping views of the city. The property is for sale — and agents are looking for buyers seeking celebrity-level privacy and aesthetics for “cheap.”

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom Hollywood Hills house hit the market at the end of September with a $6 million price tag, according to a Homes.com listing. It’s nearly a 300% increase from the last time the house sold in 2012, the result of a $2.5 million renovation completed by the sellers.

Though it was built in 1964, the house was reimagined by architect Tim Campbell, known for his restoration projects including a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Los Angeles, co-listing agents Lauren Reichenberg of Compass and Alex Barad of Nourmand & Associates wrote in the listing description. The house also comes with luxury amenities that include a pool, a media room and a smart home system.

The Campbell renovation sets the house apart from other properties in the area, making it a big selling point, Barad said in an interview.

“This house kind of has the vibe of somebody, maybe from the west side, who wants that kind of aesthetic, but maybe slightly less than what they would pay on the west side,” he said, referring to a residential area of Los Angeles.

The house’s location is also part of its allure, according to Barad. Set in the gated Valley Oaks community, the property is part of a private enclave known to attract celebrities.

“I’m not a narc. I’m not going to give up all the people that I know live there,” Barad said, “but I will say it was once where Brad Pitt and Angelina [Jolie] lived.”

More than just celebrity neighbors, though, the house also has easy access to “cool shops and restaurants” while still maintaining a sense of privacy, according to Barad.

“When you’re behind those gates, you really could be anywhere,” he said. “You could be, you know, Big Sur, but you’re just moments from stepping outside of that gate and being right in prime East Hollywood.”
