WNC Taps Caruana as President, CIO of Newly Formed PEF Advisors

Affordable housing investment and development firm WNC has formed a new affiliate, Preservation Equity Fund Advisors, and appointed a president and chief investment officer of the new company from within its ranks.

Ann Caruana will lead the investment advisory firm as it acquires and preserves existing affordable housing in high-cost markets across the country. She is based in the firm's office in Irvine, California.

Caruana has more than 19 years of experience in the affordable housing and multifamily investment industries, specializing in underwriting and acquiring affordable rental housing investments while creating economic returns for investors.

For the past three years, Caruana served as senior vice president of WNC's preservation equity funds, where she oversaw the acquisition and asset management teams. Before that she worked with a private real estate equity firm, most recently as senior vice president of acquisitions, and previously spent nine years holding various research and investment roles at a publicly traded multifamily real estate investment trust.

“Ann is the right leader for PEF Advisors. She has unmatched knowledge and experience needed to make successful investments in affordable rental housing, but most importantly she is a natural leader with uncommon dedication and passion,” WNC President Will Cooper Jr. said in a corporate statement announcing the move.

Caruana is a member of the Urban Land Institute's women’s leadership initiative and the National Multifamily Housing Council's emerging leaders committee. She holds an MBA from the University of Miami in Florida and a bachelor’s degree in statistics and marketing from Miami University in Ohio.
