A nine-story distribution facility in Japan that has bowling alleys, 24-hour stores, lounges, shower rooms, a free daycare facility and a sky deck was the favorite project at the 2024 Mipim Awards industry gathering.
The ESR Higashi Ogishima Distribution Centre in Kawasaki, Japan, won both special jury recognition for being the most-liked project and the best industrial and logistics development award. Satoshi Takeda, senior director and construction head at ESR Group, accepted the awards on behalf of his firm. Based in Hong Kong, ESR is one of the largest real asset managers in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Mipim Award winners were picked by a jury and registered delegates who attended the commercial real estate event last week in Cannes, France. François Trausch, CEO and CIO of PIMCO Prime Real Estate chaired the jury that had previously shortlisted 40 of the projects from 20 countries for the final ceremony at the Palais de Festivals in Cannes.
The Mipim Awards, established in 1991, showcase "the world’s most sustainable and visionary projects," Mipim organizers said in a statement. This year, 209 completed or yet-to-be-built projects from 39 countries were submitted for consideration.
