Kidder Mathews has expanded into Idaho by recruiting retail broker Sherry Schoen and associate Kasey Smart from Newmark to establish the brokerage's new office in downtown Boise.
Schoen joins Seattle-based Kidder Mathews as executive vice president from Newmark, where she was a senior managing director and a top producer, according to a statement from Kidder Mathews. She specializes in retail tenant and buyer representation, including site selection, market penetration and expansion.
The duo will work at the firm's new office space at One Capital Center 999 W. Main St., marking Kidder Mathew's 19th office, now with a presence in six states.
The office is part of an expansion across the Pacific Northwest and up and down the West Coast that "highlights our ongoing growth and commitment to new markets,” CEO Bill Frame said in a statement.
The West Coast's largest independent commercial real estate brokerage has hired nearly 30 new brokers in the Pacific Northwest and 80 on the West Coast since January 2023, despite the choppy environment in property transactions.
Boise, Idaho's capital and most populous city, is growing rapidly as more people move to the state from areas with a higher cost of living, such as California, Oregon and Washington.
The city's two most populous areas, Ada and Canyon counties, have added a combined 100,000 people since 2020 for a total of nearly 823,000, according to data from the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho.
Solid job growth in the professional services, financial and information sectors has driven robust office leasing in Boise, according to a CoStar Analytics report.
The region's commercial real estate market, with over 139 million square feet of total inventory across all property types, has remained healthy, despite expanded construction to accommodate growth, Kidder Mathews said.
For example, Boise-based Micron, one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies, is in the process of a $15 billion expansion of its current facility that is expected to create 2,000 direct Micron jobs.
