New Orleans Posts Three-Year High in Job Losses During First Half of 2023

Leisure and Hospitality Sector Remains Biggest Drag on Economy

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the New Orleans region lost 1,500 jobs in June, most of which, 1,200 positions, were driven by the Leisure and Hospitality sector. However, when looking back at the historical average over the past 20 years, excluding 2020, that number is not far off from the 1,400 jobs typically lost in a given June.
