It seems as though every hotel company has launched a new extended-stay hotel brand in recent months.

Looking back through the headlines, industry giants Hilton and Hyatt Hotels Corp. have announced the launch of their new brands. Marriott International's CEO teased an upcoming midscale extended-stay brand launch during an earnings call last month.

Those are just the newest launches. Several companies have announced a new extended-stay brand, or two as in Extended Stay America's case. Those companies include Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and BWH Hotels.

Jan Freitag, national director for Hospitality Market Analytics at CoStar, wrote that it's not surprising there's so much interest in extended-stay brands given how well they performed during the pandemic.

"Even when room demand for regular hotel rooms evaporated in early 2020, extended-stay hotels showed that there is always demand from customers such as first responders, traveling nurses, construction crews and people relocating for family or professional reasons," he wrote. "This made the performance of the sector if not recession-proof then at least recession-resistant."

With so many new brands coming out, it's important to know what's out there right now and what's on the way.

HNN has compiled the number of open and in-development extended-stay hotels by brand, sourced directly from the brand companies. Though not an exhaustive accounting, it helps show the extended-stay hotel landscape as of the end of the first quarter of 2023.
