The Shops at RedBird co-developers Peter Brodsky and Terrence Maiden have donated a long-term lease to nonprofit group Vogel to create a 15,000-square-foot child care facility at the retail center south of downtown Dallas.

At the facility, Vogel will offer a program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. NAEYC's standards call for the center to provide high-quality therapeutic early childhood education services and employment-matching opportunities for families who need it, Vogel said.

The Shops at RedBird said Brodsky and Maiden donated the long-term lease to Vogel to help improve the quality of life of residents in the local area and employees of RedBird tenants. Occupants at the center include Parkland Clinic, UT Southwestern, Children’s Health, Jarvis Christian University, the DEC Network at Redbird, Workforce Solutions and Dallas College.

The facility, to be called The Rita Sue and Alan Gold Child and Family Center, will have the capacity to serve 134 children ages 6 weeks through prekindergarten, Vogel said. Employees who work at The Shops at RedBird will have priority placement, along with working families supported by Vogel. Remaining spots will be open to South Dallas residents.

“We believe Vogel’s presence at RedBird will remove a major obstacle for employees getting to work every day and for employers trying to lure their teams back to the office,” Brodsky said in a statement. “It is a win-win-win.”
