Department store chain J.C. Penney Co. plans to extend the temporary closure of its stores and business offices because of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as furlough the majority of its store workers beginning Thursday and a "significant" portion of its corporate employees beginning Sunday, echoing a move made by other retailers across the nation.
