Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is partnering with Soliteight Hotel Projects to debut the Super 8 hotel brand in Spain and Portugal with a 40-hotel deal.
The exclusive development agreement calls for hotel development and investment firm Soliteight to develop and open 40 Super 8 hotels over the next 10 years, according to a news release.
The deal comes as both Spain and Portugal are seeing record-breaking tourism growth, according to the release. There's also rising demand for economy hotels.
Wyndham operates 14 Super 8 hotels across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, including Germany, the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.
The first Super 8 to open will be in Leiria, Portugal, in the fourth quarter of 2027. The brand is also targeting prime locations in first- and second-tier cities, including key travel hubs such as airports, retail areas and along popular transportation routes. Many of the hotels will incorporate new construction using "smart modular" design for efficiency and sustainability.
"Bringing Super 8 to Spain and Portugal is a strategic move to make quality, affordable travel more accessible," Dimitris Manikis, Wyndham's president of EMEA, said in the news release. "Southern Europe has a growing demand for reliable, budget-friendly accommodations, and our collaboration with Soliteight allows us to meet that need."
In 2024, Spain attracted a record 94 million international visitors while Portugal also experienced growth in tourism, the release states. Spain saw 3.2% increase in gross domestic product last year, which has fueled its domestic and business travel segments.
Spain and Portugal continue to lag other European markets in branded economy hotels with a 10% gap in budget brand penetration despite there being a 142% surge in revenue per available room since 2019, Soliteight CEO Rui Alpalhão said in the release.
"We are delighted to partner with Wyndham as the exclusive developer for Super 8 in Iberia, addressing the need for well-branded economy hotels that offer comfort, consistency, and value for both international and domestic travelers," he said.
