Gian Rodriguez, who led Cushman & Wakefield's South Florida offices for nearly five years, has been hired by rival CBRE to lead its Miami market as the brokerage works to grow its business in the region.

Rodriguez started Monday as managing director in Miami. In his new role, Rodriguez will be responsible for developing and executing the brokerage's strategic direction in Miami and overseeing day-to-day operations of the office, CBRE said. The firm said Rodriguez also will oversee the firm's industrial real estate platform across South Florida.

He is filling the position that opened last year when former market leader Josh Bank was promoted to executive managing director for Florida to oversee the firm's business across the state, spokesperson Liz Kamper said in an email. Rodriguez joined the leadership team of Bank and Susan Bands, CBRE's managing director for Palm Beach County.

An industrial broker by trade, Rodriguez built his career in South Florida commercial real estate representing industrial users, owners and investors while at Cushman & Wakefield. During his career, Rodriguez has completed industrial sale and lease transactions with an aggregate value of more than $2 billion.

In April 2019, Cushman & Wakefield promoted him to managing principal of its Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offices. In that role, he oversaw the brokerage's operation that included nearly 300 real estate professionals. At the time of the promotion, Cushman & Wakefield said Rodriguez, then 39, was one of the youngest managing principals at the firm.

He started at Cushman & Wakefield in September 2011 and worked there for more than a dozen years. In November, he was named a CoStar Power Broker for being part of the Cushman & Wakefield landlord representation team that completed a lease with Frito-Lay for an industrial building under construction in Doral, Florida, during the third quarter of last year.

Bank said Rodriguez's experience will play a key role as CBRE looks to expand its market share across South Florida.
