The young entrepreneurs behind an e-commerce venture, which was also the stalking horse bid for Pier 1 Imports' intellectual property and e-commerce business, had the winning bid of $31 million at this week's bankruptcy auction, edging out Sycamore Partners, a New York City-based private equity firm with a history of buying struggling retail businesses on the cheap.
