Even in retirement, Jay Epstien continues to gain accolades for his support of the commercial real estate law profession.

Epstien, a retired partner from law firm DLA Piper's Washington, D.C., office, is set to receive the Fred Lane Award from the American College of Real Estate Lawyers at its annual meeting scheduled for Sept. 18 in the nation's capital. ACREL is an organization of U.S. real estate lawyers with more than 1,000 Fellows from all 50 states.

Epstien will be only the 15th recipient of the award in the Frederick, Maryland-based organization's 47-year history. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the organization in recognition of service to the public, the profession and to ACREL.

At London-based DLA Piper, Epstien was the lead lawyer on many of the largest downtown office leases in Washington, D.C. He represented both landlords and tenants, including numerous law firms that sought his counsel. He also has represented owners, developers and users in all aspects of real estate transactions involving urban office buildings, shopping centers and mixed-use projects.

Epstien continues to serve as a consultant through his own firm, Millrose Partners, to help connect the dots between real estate and law. While his title at DLA Piper is retired partner, he admits he is “still just a phone call away," he said in an interview.

In 2015, Epstien received the Judge Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee in recognition of his exceptional professional achievements and dedication to civic and philanthropic causes and organizations.
