'Laddered' Capital Gains Tax Discounts Could Help Stabilize Housing Market

To help combat the housing affordability crisis, the federal government has extended the amortization period for residential mortgages from 25 to 30 years. While extending the amortization period does offer lower monthly payments, over the longer term, it also increases the overall cost of homeownership materially.
