BioMed Realty, a Blackstone portfolio company working focused on life sciences and technology real estate, has hired a lead for its operations across two core markets in the UK and US.

Mark Bush becomes senior vice-president of operations for the East Coast and UK markets, leading teams across Cambridge (England), one of the key life sciences cities in the UK, and Boston-Cambridge (Massachusetts).

Bush will be based at the BioMed Realty's offices in Cambridge in the US and report to Colleen O’Connor, the firm's executive vice-president of market lead for the East Coast and UK markets.

He joins from The Davis Companies, a real estate investment, development and management firm headquartered in Boston (Massachusetts), where he was most recently senior vice-president of asset management.

In that role he gave strategic oversight and direction for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties. Other roles in his more than 20-year career history include a stint as vice-president of asset management at AEW Capital Management and positions with Brixmor Property Group and Fidelity Investments.

O'Connor said in a statement: "Mark’s extensive experience in the commercial real estate industry will be a valuable asset, strengthening our efforts and contributing to BioMed Realty’s success in providing life science and technology companies with differentiated real estate solutions."

BioMed says it owns and operates a life sciences real estate portfolio of 16 million square feet "concentrated in leading innovation markets" throughout the US and UK, including Boston/Cambridge, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Boulder and Cambridge, UK.

Earlier this year, the Blackstone portfolio company signed global biopharma firm Invox to a 20,000-square-foot laboratory and office space at Granta Park in Cambridge, leasing the entire Franklin Building.
