Property Cup boots up for 2025
Real estate’s leading charity football tournament, the Property Cup, has unveiled its line-up for this year's competition which is being hosted by LSH and principal organiser Jon Rea-Palmer. The tournament will kick off on 7 May at Queens Park Rangers' Loftus Road Stadium in west London. CoStar News is the media sponsor with SmartSpaces, Tayler Reid, Porterfield PR among the other firms backing the tournament.
This year 16 teams will feature, including Lambert Smith Hampton, CBRE, JLL, Cushman & Wakefield, Knight Frank, Savills, Montagu Evans, Gardiner & Theobald, Arcadis, CoStar, Ryan, Hartnell Taylor Cook, Colliers, Glenny, Newmark and The Office Agents Society. The knock-out tournament raised more than £7,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research last year, read here, and has generated around £60,000 for charity over the years.
Jon Rea-Palmer, head of M4 Corridor at LSH and the principal organiser of the tournament, told CoStar News: "This year's Property Cup is set to be another highly successful tournament particularly as it returns to a 16-team format. Vail Williams names Surrey regional managing partner
National property consultancy Vail Williams has made Charlie Nicholson regional managing partner for the Surrey as one of four strategic mid-year promotions. Nicholson, based in Woking, has 20 years’ experience in the UK property market, specialising in the acquisition and disposal of commercial property. Vail Williams said in a statement: "Charlie is a driven commercial property agent with expertise in the disposal of office, industrial and mixed-use schemes across the Surrey, Thames Valley and Heathrow regions on behalf of both occupiers and landlords. He also represents a number of businesses in the acquisition of premises or development land."
Eldon Square hires centre director
Eldon Square, the company behind one of Newcastle’s best-known shopping centres, has named Helen Cowie centre director. Cowie brings more than 30 years of retail and operational experience to lead the centre. She held senior positions at Marks and Spencer across multiple regions, including the North East, North West and Scotland, before moving. The company said her experience in establishing new business streams will "help drive innovation across all aspects of Eldon Square’s continuing development". Cowie also has a personal connection to the shopping centre, having been born and raised in the North East and visiting Eldon Square from a young age.
Newmark beefs up UK industrial team
Newmark has recruited Charlie Seaton, William Laing and Daniel Rudd to join its national industrial and logistics team in the UK. Seaton has two decades' experience and specialises in advising occupiers of industrial and logistics real estate on acquisitions, disposals and strategic advice. He was previously head of Asset Management at Roebuck. Bringing seven years’ experience, Laing joins Newmark with a focus on market data analysis across the UK, specialising in the industrial and logistics sector. Rudd will also join the industrial and logistics team as senior associate with seven years’ experience working with developers, landlords and occupiers.
DM Hall names two directors in round of promotions
DM Hall, one of Scotland’s leading independent firms of Chartered Surveyors, has appointed two directors and four associates in a flurry of promotions. Calum Riach and Lesley Coghill, who are both part of the firm’s Inverness office, have been promoted to directors. Brett Ferguson, from its Perth office, Hannah Saunders, from the Kirkcaldy team, Rachel McCall of the West Commercial Valuation team and Craig Connery, in the building consultancy division, all become associates. John McHugh, managing partner of DM Hall, said in a statement: "Each in their own way has already contributed significantly to the particular area of the business in which they operate."
CPA chief handed Freedom of the City
Charles Begley, chief executive of the City Property Association, has received Freedom of the City of London in recognition of his contribution to the built environment in the Square Mile over the past decade. Begley, who was made chief executive of the real estate lobby group in 2014 - 110 years after it was founded - is credited with helping to cement the City's position as a leading global destination for business and leisure. He has also served as the deputy chair of the City Corporation’s Skills for a Sustainable Skyline Taskforce for the past two years. Begley was nominated for the award by the City Corporation’s Court of Common Council.
