Meta Faces Australian Regulator Lawsuit over Scam Facebook Ads

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is suiting Meta Platforms in the country's federal court for what the Wall Street Journal described as "scam ads were still being displayed on Facebook even after public figures around the world complained that their names and images were being used without consent." Facebook officials said their company is already using tech to find and block those ads.

“We don’t want ads seeking to scam people out of money or mislead people on Facebook,“ a spokesperson said. ”They violate our policies and are not good for our community.”

Oyo Touts 'Tech-First' Approach

In an interview with HNN's Bryan Wroten, Oyo Homes & Hotels International President Prasun Choudhary said his company has spent the last two years rethinking its approach to technology to grow as "a much more technology-first company."

“We went back to our drawing boards during the quarter and said, ‘How can we implement more products, bring more innovative products on the market and become a much more tech-enabled, tech-first company?’” he said. “And I think that has worked for us.”

Expedia Exec Says Hotels and OTAs Are More Collaborative

While the relationship between hoteliers and online travel agencies has been contentious in the past, Greg Schulze, Expedia Group senior vice president of strategic travel partners, told Hotel News Now his company is working more closely with hotel companies than ever before.

"The least productive thing that we can do is fight over the last piece of the pie," he said. "We absolutely see opportunity to provide great experiences to travelers, to encourage more travel and to help our partners to reach demand that they certainly could not reach on their own to help them be successful in not just filling hotel rooms or airplane seats but to provide an integrated experience. The more we can do that, the more they're going to want to work with us."

How Some Profit from Cryptocurrency

With cryptocurrency's place in wider society growing, and more and more companies touting it as an investment possibility, Wired took a look at the primary ways investors make money in crypto, called staking and yield farming.

"At their most basic, staking cryptocurrency and yield farming are pretty much the same thing: They involve investing money into a crypto coin (or more than one at a time) and collecting interest and fees from blockchain transactions," the news outlet reports.
