CBRE has said Ciaran Bird will step down from his role as chief executive of the United Kingdom and Ireland advisory business, and that the company has started a search for a new leader for this business.
“I have had the best job imaginable for the past dozen-plus years. After all this time, I’ve decided that the time is right for a new leader to take the reins of the UK business,” Bird said in a statement.
Bird will continue to lead the Dallas-based brokerage's United Kingdom and Ireland business, working with the United Kingdom advisory executive committee, until a successor is in place.
It is a time of change at the top of some leading United Kingdom brokerages with JLL announcing just over a week ago that Stephanie Hyde was moving on as chief executive, as reported, while John Munday has recently taken over from long-time Colliers UK CEO Tony Horrell.
“CBRE has a market-leading position in the UK Advisory market, thanks to the strength of our 3,000-person, best-in-class team. Ciaran has been a strong leader for that team, and we appreciate all his contributions to the company,” said Chris Kirk, CBRE’s global chief operating officer, advisory services.
“The business will be in great shape when he hands over the leadership reins. Until then, Ciaran and our UK advisory executive committee continue to run the business with an intense focus. This enables us to run a thorough process to identify the right leader who can sustain our momentum and build on our strengths across the UK and Ireland.”
Bird joined CBRE 20 years ago when the brokerage giant bought retail adviser Dalgleish, where Bird worked.
“Our business has grown and prospered in ways that I could not have imagined back in 2005. As I plan to hand over the leadership reins, I am comforted in knowing that the next two decades for our business look equally bright," he said.
