Industrial permits suggest Edmonton will be a hotbed of construction and investment

Record level of permitted industrial developments has been approved in 2024

The second and third quarters of this year each contributed over $180 million to the year’s historic $478 million worth of newly permitted industrial buildings and facilities (including manufacturing and processing builds related to the energy sector) for the Edmonton metropolitan region, according to Statistics Canada. Before the start of this year, only two quarters dating back to the beginning of 2017 exceeded $85 million, the fourth quarter of 2017 ($213 million) and the first quarter of 2024 ($110 million). This year’s tally has already surpassed the previous annual record, 2017’s $329 million.
