McQuaid has been appointed head of environmental and social impact at hotel firm Belmond. She began her new role on Jan. 2 and arrives from the position of head of environmental, social and governance at High Street retailer Marks & Spencer.
Ayo Akinsete
Akinsete been named chief operating officer at hybrid hotel firm Generator. He arrives from being managing editor at hotel firm Birch and has had roles at SH Hotels & Resorts, Dream Hotel Group and Gansevoort Hotel Group. As a teenager, he was on the books of professional soccer club West Ham United.
Daniel Karbownik
Karbownik has been promoted to vice president of operations, premium, midscale and economy for sub-Saharan Africa at Accor. He most recently was area general manager of West and Central Africa and has worked at the French company since 2010.
Ibtissam Doubaj, Barkin Kartal and Mustafa Kemal
Doubaj, Kartal and Kemal have been appointed at the 230-room The Rixos The Palm Dubai Hotel & Suites in the Palm Jumeirah district of Dubai. Doubaj begins there as cluster director of sales; Kartal starts as director of operations, and Kemal assumes the role of director of food and beverage.
Michael Pearson
Pearson has arrived at the 32-room The Cottage in the Wood in Malvern Wells, Worcestershire, England, as general manager. Previously, he was operations manager at Tewkesbury Park, but he started his career in the hotel industry as a bar supervisor.
Alhaji Abubakar
Abubakar has joined the board of Nigerian hotel firm Transcorp Hotels as a non-executive director. A lawyer by trade, Abubakar spent 19 years at the Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission, which regulates, formulates and administers companies and company management in the country, in roles such as deputy of compliance and special adviser to the registrar general.
Cavin Mpofu
Mpofu has been appointed general manager of the 20-room Hotel Bath Lynmouth in the Devon town of Lynmouth on the edge of Exmoor National Park. His last position before arriving was as general manager of the Richardson Hotel in Falmouth, a town in the neighboring county of Cornwall.
Tessa Gorman
Gorman has been named as new managing director at the 308-room Rosewood London, as of Jan. 1. Her most recent position was as general manager of the One&Only Portonovi, Montenegro, but she also worked as general manager at the Bvlgari Resort Bali and Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Thailand.
Dominique Florian
Florian has been appointed head of construction at hotel firm Generator and has been charged with overseeing development across Europe and the U.S. Prior to this, Florian worked for six years at business advisory JLL, lastly as senior director of integrated workplace services.
Adrien Poul
Poul has joined the 179-room Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest as director of food and beverage, arriving from the position of director of two restaurants at the Hotel Le Bristol Paris, Café Antonia and Jardin Français.
