An investor has purchased a shopping center in West Columbia, South Carolina, even as the plaza's anchor tenant filed for bankruptcy protection during the negotiations.
Woodberry Plaza traded hands late last year after an affiliate of Nova Management purchased the shopping center for more than $4 million.
Negotiations on the deal continued even after anchor tenant Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last fall and announcing the closing of hundreds of stores across the country, including in South Carolina. The West Columbia location remains open at this time.
A press release from brokerage Marcus & Millichap said the buyer was prepared to assume the vacancy in the event that Big Lots closed the store.
Woodberry Plaza has been selected by a panel of local industry professionals as the winner of the 2025 CoStar Impact Awards for sale of the year for Columbia, South Carolina.
About the deal: Woodberry Plaza is located at 3230-3260 Augusta Road in West Columbia. The 84,110-square-foot shopping center sits on a 13.48-acre site a mile away from Interstate 26.
They made it happen: NAI Columbia's Patrick Palmer and Bobby Balboni represented the seller. Marcus & Millichap's Allyssa Paragano and Ani Paulson represented the buyer.
