National real estate brokerage Stream Realty Partners' latest new hire, Doug Jones, wants to stay focused on the future with no desire to look in the rearview mirror.

"I've known the Stream team for a really long time and have a ton of respect for the leaders, and we've had a great relationship over a number of years," Jones said in an interview. "Last year, we had the opportunity to reconnect and had discussions on what it would look like to join the team. For me, this was the right place."

Jones declined to share details of how he reconnected with the team at Dallas-based Stream Realty Partners. But, he said, it came down to Stream's people and its "really special" culture making it the right fit for the former decorated military veteran and Cushman & Wakefield executive, who left his prior place of employment abruptly in mid-2023.

Jones spoke to CoStar News three days into his new role as Stream's managing director of Texas office services, a newly created statewide role at the brokerage.

From some of the largest companies in the United States to local companies in the growing Dallas-Fort Worth region, Stream has a wide range of clients seeking an even wider range of expertise from the real estate services firm for guidance on the landlord or tenant side of the business, Jones said.

"One of the things I love about this organization is that it's forward-leaning and always looking at the future, despite any uncertainty in the market," he added. "Stream has a positive, optimistic approach where they want to achieve results to get to where they want to go, and we need that energy in the business right now."

Jones, who is based in Dallas, will work with Stream's Will Nichols in Austin and San Antonio, as well as Preston Young and Kyle Valentine in the brokerage's Houston office.

The uncertainty in the market stems from the lingering effects at the onset of the pandemic in early 2020 and the ongoing capital market woes, which have caused some real estate services firms to trim costs as they seek profitability. But Jones said Stream is poised to do well in Texas, which has relatively insulated markets, compared with other major U.S. markets.

In working throughout the state, Jones said he expects to tailor clients' needs to the city in which they operate or hope to operate in.

"Each city is very different in the way we implement our solutions and tactics on the ground in each market," Jones said. "We will conform to the needs of our clients in each market. For me, in my role, I'm excited about bringing consistency both on an operational and strategic level, to grow. I'll be able to work alongside the excellent leaders Stream already has in those markets."

Hard-Won Experience

Jones expects to leverage his experience in commercial real estate from his role at Cushman & Wakefield, where he was a managing principal for the firm's Texas business overseeing hundreds of employees, as well as his experience as an infantry officer for the Army Rangers. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart during his military career.

Jones said he's going to spend time listening to clients and putting people first in hopes of building what is already a strong culture at Stream.

"You've got to listen twice as much as you talk and put people first who work hard to be hungry, honest and excited, regardless of the challenges," he said.

Jones declined to discuss his most recent role at Cushman & Wakefield and why he left.

"I'm focused on moving forward," he said. "I have some incredible friends and colleagues at Cushman & Wakefield, and I always will. I look forward to seeing them on the field and I have love and respect for the organization there. I'm fully focused on the go-forward and I'm excited about the future."
