Avison Young has promoted Brandon Polakoff as head of its New York investment sales as the firm eyes nationwide U.S. expansion and CEO Mark Rose recently gave an upbeat view about the global commercial real estate market.

Polakoff, 34, and previously executive director of the brokerage’s New York investment sales, will lead a team of more than 30 to support clients with deals across multifamily, office, development, and retail properties in the city and beyond, Avison Young said. He remains a principal, a company spokesperson told CoStar News.

The promotion of Polakoff comes as James Nelson, the firm’s former high-profile head of greater New York investment sales, was recently promoted to lead the brokerage’s newly created national investment sales unit.

Nelson, still based in the city, will have a more nationally focused role even though he also will still have “a hand in day-to-day activities regarding the New York” team, the spokesperson told CoStar News.

Polakoff, who joined the Toronto-based brokerage in 2018, has been involved in sales valued at about $5 billion and has consistently achieved top producer for the firm’s tri-state investment sales group, Avison Young said. Before joining Avison Young, he worked in the investment sales group at Cushman & Wakefield in New York, according to Avison Young’s website.
