Avison Young has appointed one of its principals to lead its team in Toronto West and Southwestern Ontario as the brokerage works to expand its business in one of the province's fastest-growing regions.

The brokerage named Sanjiv Chadha a managing director in its occupier services group. Based in Avison Young's office in Mississauga, Ontario, he will focus on executing its strategic business plan and working on business development and increasing the group's market share in the region, the firm said.

"Sanjiv's expertise and portfolio diversification give him a leg up as he steps into this leadership role in Canada's largest market as we continue to identify opportunities for growth in all commercial asset classes, particularly in the region's booming industrial sector and steadily growing office market," said Mark Fieder, principal and president of Avison Young in Canada, in a statement.

The population of Southwestern Ontario is projected to grow to 2.63 million in 2051, up from 1.86 million in 2023, according to the provincial government. The Greater Toronto Area, with much of its population more densely concentrated in the west, is projected to grow to 10.4 million by 2051. It stood at 7.4 million in 2023

Avison said Chadha, who first joined the real estate company in 2022, was selected after an extensive search among internal and external candidates.

He joined the company as a principal of occupier services focusing on industrial and office clients and has advised large corporations on their global real estate strategies in more than 20 countries in a career spanning more than 20 years.
