Developer Hoffman & Associates said it has tapped a JLL alumnus as its new CEO.

Brian Dawson is joining the Washington, D.C.-based developer of mixed-use and residential projects in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic. He joins the firm after serving as a senior managing director at JLL Capital Markets. Before that, Dawson worked as a market leader for Cushman & Wakefield.

Dawson succeeds Mark Dorigan, who will continue serving as a member of the firm’s investment committee board.

The addition is part of the developer's “growth trajectory,” executives said. The company currently holds a $6 billion portfolio including more than 75 mixed-use, residential, office and retail projects. Recently, it has expanded into North Carolina and Virginia.

“Our team has been searching for a candidate with extensive experience, a track record of success, and visionary leadership,” Monty Hoffman, founder and chairman, said in a statement. “Brian exemplifies all of these qualities and will be instrumental in leading the company’s next phase of growth.”

Dawson previously collaborated with Hoffman & Associates while in his role at JLL. He worked on the company’s largest project, The Wharf, a 3.5 million square-foot, mixed-used development in Washington, D.C.

“Having collaborated with the team on The Wharf for nearly a decade during my time with JLL, I have been continually impressed by the company’s innovative approach to catalytic development that has shaped cityscapes across the region and beyond,” Dawson said in the statement. “Together, we will continue to grow the incredible platform that the leadership team has built over the past 30 years, and we will continue to deliver exceptional places that bring us together.”
