Bank House is the first building to be completed as part of the Pilgrim Street development in Newcastle, winning it a CoStar Impact Award.
The development aims to deliver more than 750,000 square feet of workspace, a public square, food and beverage, and five-star hotel.
Bank House is a 14-storey office on the site of the former Bank of England premises, offering 360-degree views across the Newcastle skyline. The 4, 500-square-foot reception area provides an inspiring arrival to the building and delivers an abundance of informal meeting and break-out space for occupiers and visitors. Outside and there is a brand new cafe and bar, Worswick Chambers. Two minutes away on foot, is Northumberland Street, a prime retail strip.
Bank House has become the home of several A-list tenants, such as Barclays and law firm DAC Beachcroft, international consultancy Oliver Wyman, insurer Lycetts and flexible workspace provider Cubo.
About the Project: Once fully occupied, the fully electric site, designed by Ryder Architecture and built by Bowmer + Kirkland, will be home to more than 1,000 workers.
What the Judges Said: "The gateway site forms part of the wider Pilgrim Street redevelopment and has been key in being the first to start on site. The location is a new one for high-quality office space, and it looks to have been a successful development," David Gibbs, director, UK Land Estates.
They Made It Happen: Christopher Turnbull, principal, building & project consultancy at Avison Young, who was the project manager.
