1 Million Square Feet Leased

Milestone Reached at 175 West Jackson Blvd.

Almost a year after the completion of an $80 million renovation, 175 West Jackson Blvd. in Chicago's Central Loop has reached a milestone with 1 million square feet leased. The new building, created inside the historic shell of the Insurance Exchange Building, welcomes tenants such as Aon Insurance Corp. and the Regional Transportation Authority. Aon's 115,000-square-foot deal and RTA's 40,000-square-foot lease helped the property reach this pinnacle. The Class-A property features 1.4 million square feet of office space and 50,000 square feet of retail space. Located in the heart of downtown Chicago's financial district, 175 West Jackson occupies the entire block bordered by Jackson, Wells, Van Buren, and Financial Place. The Insurance Exchange was the last building renowned architect and Chicago city planner Daniel Burnham designed before his death in 1912. Massive renovation of the 23-story building began in late 1999 and completed spring 2001. Only the floors and restored terra cotta exterior remain from the original structure. A new glass-and-steel canopy is suspended over the building's redesigned entrance on Jackson, which leads to a lobby finished with Italian marble, cherry wood, and custom-made light fixtures. From the lobby a long corridor that runs from Jackson to Van Buren intersects a new, 50-foot high, glass-and-steel atrium. Renovations also included the latest in technology, such as a new state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure wiring every floor with high-speed Internet, cable TV, fiber optics, and Bloomberg News terminals.
