As downtown districts struggle to fill office space across the country, an energy company lease last year has helped contribute to the recovery of Salt Lake City.
Brokerage CBRE secured an anchor tenant for Patrinely Group’s speculative building at 650 S. Main St. in July when The Williams Companies signed for 48,901 square feet, starting its move-in the next month.
The deal has been selected by a panel of local industry professionals as the winner of the 2024 CoStar Impact Award for lease of the year for Salt Lake City.
Williams, a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Fortune 500 firm, owns about 2,000 miles of gas pipelines, primarily in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.
About the Deal: Williams relocated employees from its headquarters and some branch divisions to the third and fourth floors of 650 S. Main, joining tenants such as EnerBank USA and PhyNet Dermatology.
What the Judges Said: The Williams lease “will have an impact on downtown Salt Lake City, since the company relocated employees from their main organization and different branch divisions to this central location. The company will occupy close to 50,000 square feet of office space in this speculative downtown commercial building,” Ajla Aksamija, architecture professor, University of Utah.
