After searching for what it thinks is the perfect place for a new retail outlet in the nation's capital, Google said it will open its first brick-and-mortar store in the Washington, D.C., region later this year.

The tech giant plans to take up roughly 7,000 square feet at 3235 M St. NW in D.C.'s ritzy Georgetown neighborhood, commercial real estate developer EastBanc, which owns the building, said Tuesday.

"The arrival of Google not only solidifies the neighborhood's reputation as a premier hub for innovative shopping experiences and cutting-edge brands but provides many shoppers the first opportunity to touch and feel these incredible products while surrounded by Google experts,” EastBanc principal Philippe Lanier said in a statement.

At its newest location, the company plans to offer customers the ability to try and purchase Google devices, accessories and merchandise, including Google phones and laptops. It is also slated to offer on-site device repair and support, trade-ins and programs and educational workshops.

The new store will be Google's sixth retail location nationally, though more are on the way. On its website, Google said a pair of stores, one at 1460 Third St. Promenade in Santa Monica, California, and another at 11701 Domain Blvd. in Austin, Texas, are “coming soon.”

Google did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

Google’s five current retail locations are at 111 Eighth Ave. in Manhattan; 134 N. Sixth St. in Brooklyn, New York; 2000 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Mountain View, California; 153 Newbury St. in Boston; and the Oakbrook Center in Illinois.

Apparel chain Aerie is currently located at Google’s new retail spot but will be moving to 1048 Wisconsin Ave. NW, according to local radio station WTOP.

With its 10-year lease, Google will join other tech companies in the area such as Apple. It has a store just around the corner at 1229 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

For the record

JLL represented Google, while EastBanc brokered the lease in-house.
