AmREIT, a Houston-based real estate investment trust, purchased 5.267 acres of land at the intersection of Yorktown and Westheimer in the prestigious Galleria/Uptown area of Houston. AmREIT, which purchased the land from an unknown seller, sold four acres to an undisclosed third party and retained 1.267 acres on the hard corner for retail development. "We are constantly looking to acquire what we call 'irreplaceable corners'," said Project Manager Preston Cunningham of AmREIT. "Irreplaceable corners generate strong demand from America's premier retail and restaurant corporations. Prospective tenants' feedback has demonstrated the need for solid in-fill locations. This site is one of the top retail corners in Houston. It is in the shadow of the Galleria's 2.4 million square feet of retail. The area's per capita income within a 3-mile radius of this corner is higher than Buckhead in Atlanta, Highland Park in Dallas or Beverly Hills in L.A."
