JLL Expands Retail Team in Los Angeles
JLL has expanded its Southern California retail brokerage team with the addition of Matthew Fainchtein, an industry veteran in Los Angeles who specializes in urban street retail. Fainchtein is set to start Wednesday at the firm as a managing director, JLL said. In his new role, Fainchtein will continue working with tenants and landlords on their leasing and investment needs while focusing on the greater Los Angeles markets of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Studio City, Hollywood and Malibu, JLL said. The firm said he also will lead its urban high street retail leasing practice across the Los Angeles region. With the addition of Fainchtein's assignments, JLL now oversees the leasing of more than 20 million square feet of retail properties in Southern California, the firm said. “We continue to see incredible growth in urban street retail in Los Angeles as the best retailers want to be here and landlords want to position themselves as leaders in this specialty," Chris Wilson, JLL's national agency retail lead and an executive vice president, said in a statement. Fainchtein has more than 16 years of experience in the retail real estate industry. Most recently, he worked at Lockehouse Retail Group, a boutique retail brokerage firm. Before that, he spent nine years at Cushman & Wakefield, where he specialized in urban and high-street retail.
SRS Grows Group in Central Florida
SRS Real Estate Partners has expanded its retail brokerage team in Orlando, Florida, with the addition of Mara Frumkin and KC Herbert, who provide services to tenants and owners. Frumkin most recently was at Atlantic Retail, where she worked with retailers such as The Fresh Market, AutoZone, Floor & Decor and Jack in the Box. At SRS, she will serve as a first vice president focused on retail tenant and landlord representation, the brokerage said. Frumkin also has focused on selling and leasing out-parcels and leasing ground-up developments and existing shopping centers. Before Atlantic, she worked at The Shopping Center Group. Herbert, who also most recently worked at Atlantic Retail, joined SRS as an associate focused on tenant representation. She is experienced in marketing, social media management and integrating artificial intelligence, or AI, into retail and real estate operations. “SRS continues to grow our team in Florida as well as around the country to help meet the demand we’re seeing from retailers who are looking to expand,” John Artope, an SRS executive vice president and Florida market leader, said in a statement.
Fifth Wall Taps Two as Co-Presidents
Asset management firm Fifth Wall has named Jeremy Fox and G.M. Nicholas “Magnus” Vik to the new positions of co-presidents reporting to CEO and Chief Investment Officer Brendan Wallace. Fox and Vik will help guide the company through the next phase of expansion, New York City-based Fifth Wall said. Fox, who joined Fifth Wall's leadership team in 2021 from Credit Suisse, will also continue to oversee its global partner coverage team that focuses on strategic partnerships and capital markets, the firm said. Fox also spent nearly two decades at Deutsche Bank, where he most recently served as head of U.S. equity capital markets. As for Vik, in addition to serving as co-president, he has been appointed to serve as chief operating officer, the firm said. Vik, who joined Fifth Wall as vice president of strategy and operations in 2020, previously served as director of strategy and finance at Renew Health. Before that, he was on the revenue strategy team at Snap, where he helped build its advertising business ahead of the company’s initial public offering in 2017.
In addition to naming Fox and Vik as co-presidents, Fifth Wall promoted five other senior team members. Peter Gajdoš, a partner on the investment team, has been promoted to deputy chief investment officer and portfolio manager. Jon Hong, Gajdoš' colleague on the investment team, has been elevated to the role of deputy portfolio manager. Fifth Wall said it also promoted general counsel Luke Harris and Chief Financial Officer Eric Lee to partners and that Michael New has also been named a partner on its partner coverage team.
CBRE Investment Management Adds Executive in Los Angeles
CBRE Investment Management has expanded its Americas investment platform with the addition of Jonathan San Antonio as a senior director of its U.S. closed-end enhanced return series. In his new role with the CBRE Strategic Partners U.S. fund series, San Antonio will help create and implement each fund’s strategy and director investment performance, CBRE IM said. He will also have responsibilities in portfolio management, capital raising, capital deployment, asset management and dispositions, the firm said. Before he joined CBRE Investment Management, he served as a vice president at Ares Management, where he executed equity investments across property sectors for opportunistic, value-add and core-plus fund vehicles. He also has served in private equity and investment banking roles at Rockwood Capital, CIM Group and Credit Suisse. His experience "will be invaluable to our growing Americas team and investment platform” Diann Hsueh, managing director of CBRE Investment Management, said in a statement. San Antonio is based in Los Angeles.
Cresa Beefs Up Project Management Team in Chicago
Cresa, the occupier-centric brokerage, has bolstered its project management team with the addition of Jacqueline Loftis and Amanda Simon as principals in its project management group in Chicago. In their new roles, Loftis and Simon will concentrate on growing the local team and managing large-scale, multi-site national assignments with an emphasis on retail projects, Cresa said. The addition of the duo "represents a strategic move to bolster Cresa’s capabilities and expertise" in retail real estate, the firm said. Loftis, who has more than 25 years of experience in sales and business development in construction and project management, joined Cresa from Coolsys, where, as director of business development, she helped secure new clients and expand the firm's presence across the globe. Simon joined Cresa from Sevan Multi-Site Solutions, where she served as vice president of operations. During her career, she has overseen projects for major retailers, including Amazon Fresh, Walmart and Sprouts. She previously worked for Amazon, Fresh Thyme Market, Inland and John Buck Co.
Cushman & Wakefield Hires Industrial Broker in South Carolina
Cushman & Wakefield has hired veteran broker Ryan Koop as a senior director in the firm’s Greenville, South Carolina, office, where he will focus on the industrial market. For the past seven years, Koop served as a member of Broadstreet Partners’ industrial services group. Before that, he worked as a broker in CBRE’s Greenville office. “Bringing Ryan on board is a huge win for our Greenville office and his industrial expertise will be very valuable as our firm continues to grow in this thriving sector of commercial real estate,” Brett Gray, Cushman & Wakefield’s managing principal for its Charlotte, Triad, and South Carolina markets, said in a press release. In 2020, Koop got his Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, or SIOR designation, earned by the top-performing commercial real estate professionals. He is set to start at Cushman on Wednesday.
Shopping Center Group Adds Manager in Washington, D.C.
The Shopping Center Group has hired Michelle Gutierrez, who has more than 24 years of experience in commercial property management, as a regional manager based in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining TSCG, Gutierrez served as a senior general manager at JLL, a senior property manager at Rappaport and a real estate manager at CBRE. During her career, she has managed millions of square feet of properties across the Washington, Maryland and Virginia markets and established relationships with her teams, clients and industry partners, TSCG said. She also has managed the renovation of major shopping centers, worked on new business development and served as a liaison between tenants and landlords and government agencies and local communities.
